James Russell Carson, 77, of Independence, MS, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2019. He was born April 9, 1942 to the late Joe and Etta Carson. After joining the Army, he began basic training at Fort Polk, LA and from there, went to Fort Lenardwood, MO. He was stationed in Thule, Greenland during the Vietnam War and finished his tour of duty at Fort Devens, MA. After returning from the military, he began working in the electrical field. Mr. Carson was married to his wife, Patsy for 55 years. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Patsy Carson of Independence, MS; sons, Michael Carson (Annette) of Independence, MS and Mark Carson (Sheila) of Nesbit, MS; sisters, Dorothy Barham (Jerry) of Southaven, MS and Sara Carson Scholler of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Cody Carson (GeorgeAnn), Lauren Carson Carlini (Domenick), and Hadley Carson and great granddaughter, Ridley Anne Carlini. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Etta Carson; sister, Mary Shackleford and brothers, Clyde D. Carson, Jimmy Carson, Bobby Joe Carson, and Roy Gene Carson.
