Brenda J. Hood, MSN, FNP-BC, EMT, 73, of Coldwater, MS passed away Sunday, August 7, 2022, at her residence.
Brenda Hood began her medical career as an EMT in 1974. She earned a diploma in nursing as an LPN 1979 from Northwest Community College in Senatobia, MS. She furthered her education earning a RN degree from East Arkansas Community College in 1983, a Teaching Certificate for Vocational Education from MSU in 1998, her BSN in 2007 and MSN in 2009 from Delta State University. Brenda is the owner of Sardis Family Medical Clinic which opened in 2018. She has numerous awards including 1999-2000 HEAD WAE Educator of the Year and Who's Who among American Teachers in 2000, 2002, and 2004. She was selected as NWCC's Lamplight Faculty Award. She currently served as the Secretary on the Executive Board of Directors for MS Association of Nurse Practitioners, PAC Committee since 2016, and various other MANP Board positions and committees since 2014. She is a member of MS Nurses Association. She has served as a director, president, vice-president and secretary, and event coordinator for the MS Emergency Medical Technician Association. She has conducted research in factors influencing retention of registered nurses providing care on medical units in MS Public Health District I Hospitals. She has served the state of MS for over 30 years in public health and teaching.
She has served on several committees including the MS Board of Nursing Office of Nursing Workforce, MANP PAC, Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement for MS Dept. of Bureau of EMS, Chair of the Disciplinary Committee for Career Technical Dept. and Curriculum Committee at Northwest MS Community College.
Brenda assisted in hosting MANP/Pharma dinners for NP in the north MS area for the past 8 years.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Hood; daughter, Kim Farrow (Jeff); step-daughters, Tina Smith and Tammy Delcourt (Jeremy); step-son, Jimmy Hood (Melanie); mother, Lillian Sneed; sister, Sharon Woods (Woody); brothers, Joe Sneed (Debbie), Ronnie Sneed (Judy), and Bobby Sneed (Laura); grandchildren, Braxton, Clarissa, Kirby, Madison, Josh, James Allen, Dexter, Savana, Morgan, Christopher, Chris, Levi, and Will, and 18 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, B.J. Sneed.
