Carolyn Ann Ragan Higdon, of Claremore, OK passed away August 6, 2025 in Senatobia, MS at the age of 82. She recently moved to MS to be near her beloved grandchildren. Carolyn was born January 5th, 1943 in Jacksonville, IL to William (Bill) and Gladys Duke Ragan. She was their first child and grew up in Concord, IL alongside her sister, Elaine. The girls shared an adventurous childhood filled with countless family trips to visit family and friends and to fish, hunt, and camp across the country. Carolyn was a proud graduate of Triopia High School Class of 1961. She always knew she wanted to pursue a career in nursing. She trained at Passavant Nursing School, Jacksonville, IL, the nursing program at the hospital where she was born. She became a Registered Nurse in 1964.
In 1971, Carolyn moved to Tulsa, OK to raise her growing family and continue her nursing career. She was a member of Eastland Baptist Church and worked closely with the youth programs. She made her home in Claremore, OK in 1978. Carolyn advanced into management with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma, retiring in 1998 after 24 years of dedicated service. She then became a licensed real estate agent but returned to nursing as a home health nurse before finally settling into retirement.
Carolyn loved caring for others. She was very adventurous and wanted to see and do everything she could in life. She loved the freedom and excitement that trips with her husband on their Goldwing motorcycle brought her. She dreamed of riding in every state, even Alaska and Hawaii. Each trip would take her closer to that goal. She was loved dearly by everyone that knew her. Above all, Carolyn knew and followed Christ.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Joni Higdon Post (Johnny); son, Chad Higdon (Jennifer); grandchildren, Mallorie Humble, Ella Higdon, and Emma Higdon; and nephew, Scott Potter (Kristin). She was preceded in death by her parents, William (Bill) and Gladys Duke Ragan; her beloved daughter, Beth Higdon Humble; and sister, Ruth Elaine Ragan Potter.
