Gwendolyn June (Lentz) Walker passed away September 16, 2022 peacefully at Great Oaks Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Byhalia, Mississippi. A visitation for family and friends will be 4:30 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia, Mississippi. A graveside service and the interment will be on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Walker Cemetery in Schlater, Mississippi.
Gwen was born on January 8, 1945 the tenth of eleven children to Steve and Maggie Lentz of Arkabutla, Mississippi. Gwen was a graduate of Coldwater High School in Coldwater, Mississippi in 1963.
Gwen is survived by her loving and very dedicated husband, Frank Walker, of Oxford, Mississippi, her three sons, Terence S. Byrd (Amy), Timothy M. Byrd (Kristen), and William H. Byrd (Crystal), seven grandchildren, Ashley Ward (Garrett), Emilee Tindle (Quentin), Austin Byrd (Victoria), Allison Byrd, Caroline Byrd, Nash Byrd, and Hudson Byrd, two great grandchildren, Bennett Frank Byrd and Vaiden Tindle, one brother, Dennis Lentz, two sisters, Nancy Smith (Billy) and Bonita Ragon (Jim), and many friends and family. Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and two sisters.
After rearing three boys, Gwen decided to go into real estate. With a natural talent for sales and a relentless work ethic, she moved up fast from agent to broker. Gwen founded Walker Realty and Land Company. It became one of the top real estate companies serving the Oxford, Mississippi area for over 20 years.
Gwen was a cancer survivor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure or Alzheimer’s Association.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Great Oaks Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for their professionalism and the care given to Gwen in her final months.
