James Cecil Barmer, 76, of Horn Lake, MS passed away Saturday, July 6, 2024. James was a member of Glenn's Chapel Church in Lake Cormorant, MS. Not only was he known as Dad and Papaw but lovingly answered to the names, Watermelon Man and Fat Elvis. James was an avid football fan with an everlasting love for LSU. One of his favorite past-times was betting on football games against his nephew, Rickey. He loved to travel, shoot pool, sell watermelons, spend time with his family and most of all he loved to eat. James was a truck driver, part owner and operator of Senatobia Recreational Center and also managed the Silver Cue in Southaven.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Barmer; parents, Cecil and Lillian Barmer; sisters, Betty Parker and Doris Matthews; brothers, Leon Barmer, Buford Barmer, and Billy Barmer and beloved schnauzer, Smokey. He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Barmer Henderson (Jamie Loggains); son, James Cecil Barmer, Jr. (Terrie Wicker Barmer); grandchildren, Aryel Elkin, Arron Jackson, Daniel Jackson, Sara Barmer, Nicole Hill, and Jared Barmer; 7 great grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.
