James "Jimmy" Clanton, 85, of Independence, MS passed away Saturday, July 24, 2021 at his residence. He was a retired Cosmetologist and School Bus Driver. Jimmy was a member of the Mississippi State Board of Cosmetology, the Mississippi Hairdresser and Cosmetology Association, and the Mississippi Hair Fashion Association. He also served as President of the Greenwood Hairdresser Association for 19 years. In his spare time, Jimmy umpired baseball and softball games for over 50 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Yazel Clanton; parents, John and Blanche Clanton; sister, Johnnie Lynn Pope and grandchild, Jim Cooke. He is survived by his daughters, Ilene Cooke of Independence, MS and Janet Bevis of Winona, MS; best friend, Shirley Linville; sister, Barbara Franklin (Harrell) of Senatobia, MS; brother, Don Clanton (Shirley) of Senatobia, MS; grandchildren, David Cooke, Nathan Bevis, and Michael Bevis and 7 great grandchildren. Jimmy was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
