Joanne Harrison Veazey, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Baptist Hospital in Memphis. She is preceded in death by her parents Elnora Mills Harrison and Glenn L. Harrison; brother Glenn Harrison and husbands, Ray Doty and Petie Veazey. She was born on August 4, 1930 in Byhalia, MS. She attended Byhalia High School and was co-valedictorian graduating in only three years. She went to Ole Miss and afterward was trained to be an x-ray technician at Baptist Hospital. She then worked for an internist and a surgical oncologist. She also flew for Delta Airlines as a flight attendant. The loving mother of Lynn Doty Edwards, husband John C.T. Edwards of Memphis; Charles R. Doty and wife Carol of Atlanta; Vance Veazey and wife Tenley of Memphis and step mother to Suzanne Veazey Goolsby, husband Paul of Memphis and Pete Veazey and wife Paula of Kirkland, W.A.; and sister, Claire Papai of Rochester, IL. She adored her grandchildren; Lindsey and husband Cam Rushing, Matthew Edwards, Lanier Doty, Charles Doty, Virginia Doty, Rivers Veazey and Tinsley Veazey and great granddaughter Sawyer Rushing. She also leaves her loving caregiver Vera Rayford and her wonderful family. Their friendship and bond was a joy that she cherished everyday. Joanne loved getting dressed up, going to church and was always ready to hear and tell you a funny joke. She was an associate member of Independent Presbyterian Church in Memphis and Senatobia Methodist Church.
