Joy Hawkins Lucado, 79, of Coldwater, Mississippi, passed away on April 18, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital DeSoto.

Joy had a deep love for the beach and a compassionate heart for animals, often taking in strays. She especially adored dogs and found great beauty in horses. A devoted and caring person, Joy dedicated more than 25 years of her life to teaching, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of many students.

In her younger years, she enjoyed listening to George Strait. She was also a member of the ladies’ Bible study class at LifePoint Church.

Above all, Joy treasured her family. Her most precious moments were spent with her loved ones, and she found great joy in every minute shared with her grandchildren.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Katherine Hawkins. She is survived by her husband, John Lucado, Jr.; son, John Lucado III; sister, Elaine Wardlaw; grandchildren, Olivia Lucado and Alex Lucado; nephews, John Howard Wardlaw and Mark Wardlaw; great nephews and nieces; Max Wardlaw, Macy Furr (Dillon), Will Wardlaw, and Anna Wardlaw; and great-great niece, Landry Furr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to a charity of the donor's choice.
