Kathryn Eddins Obituary

Kathryn Parker Eddins, 97, died at home on July 9, 2020, surrounded by her family. She was born August 24, 1922, to Cecil Vernon and Eleanor Bacon Parker in Tuscola, Illinois. She was industrious, working for various businesses, including the William Carter Company for over 20 years when she was younger. After retirement, she completed the Explorer’s Bible Study twice. In later years and until shortly before her death, she was known as a passionate and accomplished quilt maker. She loved travel, gardening, crossword puzzles, and Scrabble. She was elected a Tate County election commissioner in 2000 and served two terms. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and was regularly in attendance in either Arkabutla or Coldwater until her health began to seriously deteriorate and the COVID pandemic prevented much desired social interaction. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Johnnie Thomas Eddins, Jr.; her sisters Neola Scoggins, Grace Duzan, and Ethel Taylor; her brothers John Parker, Oliver Parker; and Jim Parker; and son-in-law Ronnie Algee. She is survived by a brother, Max Parker; children Mary Algee, David Childress (Gale), and Kay Carlton (Rick); eight grandchildren, Stacy Algee Brogan, Abby Algee Van Every (Marcus), John Childress (Becky), Brian Childress, Heather Childress Wright (Bobby), Eric Carlton (GinGin), Chris Carlton (Lyndsey), and Ben Carlton (Courtney); sixteen great-grandchildren, Mary Kathryn Brogan; Easton, Vance, and Jordan Van Every; Noah and Parker Childress; Alexa and Piper Childress; Kylie and Cass Wright; Nia and Frederick Carlton; Lyle, Hales, and Lilla Carlton; and Brooks Carlton. Memorials may be sent to Brooks Chapel Cemetery Association c/o Kathy Marlow; 4280 Stage Road; Coldwater, MS 38618. Services for the family will be live streamed on the Coldwater United Methodist Church Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/coldwatermsumc at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2020. A graveside service open to the public will be at 12:00 p.m. at Brooks Chapel Cemetery. Pate-Jones Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.
