Lawrence Taylor, 83, of Coldwater, MS went to be with his Lord on Friday, June 12, 2020 at HarborView Nursing Facility in Memphis, TN. Lawrence was a member of First Baptist Church in Coldwater until moving to the nursing facility in his early 60's. As a young man, he worked at Gilliland's Grocery and Meat Market on the Coldwater square. He also helped with First Baptist Church, walking down on Saturday evenings or early Sunday mornings, to turn on heat or air to prepare for services.
Lawrence was very active at Harborview in sharing his faith with everyone. He loved to sing old gospel songs and knew every stanza of old hymns. He would pass time by writing out pages and pages of hymns to give to friends and nurses there and to family members. He enjoyed a Bible study with friends when he was able. Even though he spent many years in a nursing facility, he was a happy person and a blessing to many. A visiting pastor once said of him, "Mr. Taylor is a person who is content no matter where he is!"
He was preceded in death by his mother, Emily Taylor; father, Lawrence Taylor and sisters, Irene Williams, Louise Sneed, Lillian Wildman, Florence Wilbanks, and Estelle Phillips. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church Coldwater.
