Lawrence M. “Pete” Moore, 89, of Arkabutla, MS passed away Friday, September 1, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Desoto.
Lawrence was a lifelong son of Tate County and was a veteran having served in the United States Army. He was a retired Electrical Maintenance Technician from the battery manufacturing industry. Lawrence was very active in his community during his lifetime through the Arkabutla United Methodist Church where he was a member for 8 decades, the ACS Development Association, the Arkabutla Community Center and the Surretts Cemetery Committee. He also served as Election Commissioner for District 2 in Tate County for 4 years.
Lawrence loved his Lord, his church, gospel music, singing and playing the organ/piano. ‘Pete’ as he was called by many of his longtime friends, was an avid golfer in his senior years. He always enjoyed the outdoors, riding horses, fishing, and hunting throughout the years. He also enjoyed woodworking and working on all types of things. He always seemed to find a way to fix just about anything. He will be remembered as ‘Pop’ by many as well. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Moore; daughter, Amy Latham (Todd); stepdaughter, Donna Anthony (Rickey); grandchildren, William Latham, Jr. (Samantha) and Ashley Latham, and great grandchild, Lilah Latham; along with a host of members of his stepdaughter’s family. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nannie Lou Moore; parents, Maurice and Lucille Moore, and sister, Frances Moore Smith.
