Paul Allen Jones Obituary

Paul Allen Jones, 72, of Harmontown, MS passed away November 29, 2022 at Baptist Memorial Hospital- North Mississippi. He is survived by his twin daughters, Michelle Jones of Scottsdale, AZ and Marie Jones of Chandler, AZ; son, David Jones (Jennifer) of Hernando, MS; sister, Martha “Chick” Jones of Little Rock, AR; mother of his children and lifelong friend, Louise Jones; grandchildren, Maddie, Noah and Samuel; fur babies, Brit and Sis and a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Annie Jones; sister, Barbara Crowson and brothers, Jim Jones, Bill Jones, Joe Jones, Danny Jones and Ed Jones.

Paul was a veteran having served in the Air Force during Vietnam. Despite being in the Air Force, he did not like to fly and preferred to drive when taking road trips, sometimes on his motorcycle all the way to Arizona and back. He was of the Christian faith, loved to help people in any way he could, especially repairing and building things. Paul was quite the character, always telling jokes and never left a room that he did not imprint a lasting impression. You could say that he was the life of the party but also a simple man, always dressed in jeans and a ball cap with a cup of coffee or sweet tea in hand. Paul enjoyed visiting with his friends at Harmontown Lakeside Market where they would trade hunting and fishing stories. He was also known to call the radio station every Tuesday (Taco Tuesday) under the name, “Bonfire Gang”. Paul loved to cook for his friends and family, especially his chocolate gravy and sweet potato casseroles and had even perfected making his own wine. He was also your national weatherman, calling friends and family to inform them of what the forecast held. He was creative and intelligent, a math whiz. When helping his children with their homework, he would often challenge the teacher's approach. In his younger years, the railroad sent Paul to Sears Tower for a training seminar where he taught employees a new and faster approach to breaking down the rail cars. He enjoyed his time working on the railroad, but he was a carpenter at heart and had a true talent for building.

Paul was deeply passionate about the outdoors and respectful of nature. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and skilled with both rifle and bow. In fact, if you didn’t have a conversation about deer, you didn’t know Paul Jones.

In his final hours, he was able to show the hospital staff his spice for life and make them laugh. He expressed his deep love for his family and for his Savior. In Paul Jones fashion, he lived and died on his own terms. He cherished his time here with family and friends, but as a wise man once said, “Paul Jones has left the building”! His memories and legacy will live on through those who had the privilege of knowing him.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Pate-Jones Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2022. Family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 a.m.
