A mighty fortress of kindness, generosity and faith has fallen.
Richard Warren Taylor of Como, MS entered into the restorative presence of heaven on Saturday, December 21, 2024. All who knew Richard, knew his love of family and recognized his devotion to his favorite word “DAD” or “Richard.” His kindness was legendary to all who knew him and was so evident the blind could see and the deaf could hear his kind love.
Richard was born in Sardis, MS on January 10, 1956, to the late Warren Taylor and Adelaide P. Taylor of Como, MS. Richard graduated from North Panola High School in 1974. Richard attended Northwest Community College and the University of Mississippi. He loved his Ole Miss Rebels. In 1979 Richard married the love of his life, Marilyn Long of Como, MS. Richard spent 25 years of public service with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in April of 2023.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Marilyn, and his two daughters, Olivia Brister (Brad) of Como, MS, and Emily Alexander (Connor) of Batesville, MS and his adored grandchildren - his two grandsons, Beau Brister and Henry Brister, and his granddaughter, Ella Alexander. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye and his devotion, and the guidance provided to them is the envy of grandpaws everywhere. He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn McMasters, of Como, MS.
His parents, Warren and Adelaide Taylor, along with his brother, Willian “Buck” Taylor, and nephew, Michael Taylor, will greet him at heaven’s door in paradise.
Richard made several mission trips to the children’s orphanage in Honduras where his vast skills as a “fix- it” man were welcomed. It was in Honduras, doing the Lord’s work with “the least of these“ that Richard perfected the art of making tortillas, which became a great joy for him. He also enjoyed cooking, fishing, and playing golf.
An old adage reminds us that “where there is love there is life.” Love is the measure of life, and Richard Taylor led a full life filled with love of family and his fellow man.
A memorial service for Richard will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2024, at the Como Methodist Church. The family will receive friends prior to the services from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. in the Como Methodist Church’s Fellowship Hall.
