Rita Louise Walker Stacks

Rita Louise Walker Stacks, 74, of Thyatira, MS passed away June 5, 2023 surrounded by family. She is survived by husband of over 53 years, Anthony D. Stacks; daughter, Shannon Stacks Esque (Michael) of Homosassa, FL; son, Jeff Stacks (Angie) of Centerville, TN; sister, Beverly Smith (Mac) of Centerville, TN; brother, Caswell Walker, Jr. of Centerville, TN and grandchildren, Jesse Stacks, Tyler Stacks, Sadie Stacks, Elliott Esque and Zack Esque. She was preceded in death by her parents, Caswell and Marguritte Walker.

Rita was born and raised in Independence, MS and later graduated as salutatorian of her high school class of 1966. She went on to attend “The W” Mississippi University for Women earning her Bachelor’s in Education. Rita was a member of Thyatira Church of Christ for more than 50 years. She was a teacher at Independence High School for over 30 years. She loved her students, fellow faculty members and loved to teach. She also took great pride every year in making sure all teachers had supplies and whatever they may have needed to teach students. Rita was renowned for supporting all sports activities especially football and basketball games. She could be found at every Friday night football game cheering with her cowbell in hand! Rita loved traveling to Yellowstone with her husband every year and stopping along the way to visit friends in Wyoming. Rita was a loving member of the community, teacher, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. Her presence will be missed and her memories will live on through those who loved her.

At Rita’s request, please bring your cowbell to the graveside to help ring her into her heavenly home. To any athletes from Independence High School that she may have fed or taught over the years, please join us as honorary pallbearers.
