Ruby Gay Walker Ferguson departed this world December 4, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving children. Born June 13, 1934, to Caswell and Ruth Crenshaw Walker, Ruby Gay was a native of Independence, MS. She attended Independence High School, where she was Valedictorian of the class of 1952. After high school, she continued her education at Northwest MS Community College. May 8, 1954, she married the love of her life, Maise Ferguson. They created a beautiful life together and had three children that they were immensely proud of. They were married for 67 years, and their love only grew stronger with each passing year. Ruby Gay loved the Lord and was a devoted member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Ruby Gay is a retired teacher’s assistant from East Tate Elementary School.
Ruby Gay is preceded in death by her husband, Edward “Maise” Ferguson, her parents, Caswell and Ruth Walker, her siblings, Harry Walker, Ruth Evelyn Wallace, Dimple Williams, Mary Elizabeth Lewis, Caswell Walker, and Robert “Bob” Walker.
She is survived by her children, Ed Ferguson (Joel), Linda Townsend (Luther), and Paula Ferguson. Her grandchildren, Clint Townsend (Leah), Lee Ferguson (Kim), Carla Townsend, Lindsey Riddell (Reid), Cadie Jefferies (Brandon), Seth Wooten, Caleb Townsend, Ashley Joslin (Drew) and great-grandchildren, Georgia, Gabe, Lucas, Grant, Judah, Ruby, Ruth, Archie, Lulie, and Lydia.
