The Lord allowed Marie Crockett to see the face of Jesus and the family she loved dearly and longed to see again on September 17, 2021.
Texie Marie Ray was born March 16, 1934 in Tate County Mississippi to Jeptha and Winnie Ray. She grew up in Poagville area as the youngest of 9 children. Her parents and siblings were remembered by Marie with much love and happiness.
Marie graduated from Coldwater High School and shared endless stories of close friends, fun, and her love of basketball during those years.
Marie was married to her beloved husband, Merton L. Crockett, from Independence. They lived worked and raised their children there throughout their lives.
Marie’s first job was with Veazey and Company and she was later employed by Fred’s, both in Coldwater for many years. Marie was a member of the Independence Church of Christ. Her love of her church family and community was shown by the great food she cooked and shared in times of need. Marie loved singing the old hymns and remembered all the words and sang them to the end. Her laughter and humor will always be remembered even in the years that dementia stole so much. That humor gave us many moments and memories.
She is predeceased by her parents, Jeptha and Winnie Ray, her husband, Merton L. Crockett, her brothers Aaron Ray, Elihue Ray, Albert Norris Ray, William Moris Ray, and McKay Ray, her sisters, Sylvia McDonald, Erlene Lucas, and Emma Farrow.
Her family would like to thank the Homecare Hospice Company of New Albany that took care of their mother in the last months of her life. They cared for and loved her so well. Much thanks to Senatobia Rehab and Nursing Center during her brief stay there.
There are no words to express the thanks and love to JoAnna Boyd and Judy Greer who were caregivers for our mom these last years. They loved and cared unconditionally and we are forever grateful. Many thanks to Chi and Kathy as well who helped the few months when things were so tough.
Marie is survived by two children, Gary (Teresa) Crockett of Independence, Mississippi and Debby (Dan) Pitts of Lexington, South Carolina, four grandchildren, Justin (Melissa) Crockett, Bruce (Jessica) Crockett, Roslyn (Justin) Koon, and Daniel (Sarah) Pitts, nine great grandchildren, Hunter and Allison Crockett, Kati, Isaac, Eli, Emerie, and Blanton Crockett, Caleb and Joshua Koon and also many special nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given to Independence Church of Christ and St. Jude Hospital.
