Walter R. "Sonny" Stewart

Walter R. “Sonny” Stewart, 89, of Independence, MS passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at his residence. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army. Sonny was also a beef cattle farmer for most of his life and retired from Trunkline Gas Company. Sonny was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Anne Stewart and parents, Jeffery and Ruby Stewart. He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Brown (Paul); sons, Walter R. “Bobby” Stewart, Jr. and Brian Sanders Stewart (Sandy); sister, JoAnn Lott; granddaughters, Katie Brown, Madelynn Carter Stewart, and Macy Caroline Stewart, and great grandson, Grayson Hadley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to The Delores Sanders and Walter R. “Sonny” Stewart Endowed Scholarship at NWCC or Independence Church of Christ where he was a member.
